Durău Monastery

After visiting the Petru Voda Monastery, we wanted to visit the Durău Resort. Because we did not know the road, we asked for the help of the GPS that brought us in the wrong direction "300 meters back" and we complete and say .. "because we brought you on the wrong path". My father says: shouldn't we have our adventures too? No trip without adventures! If isn't no adventures it is boring, isn't?

In the end, we reach the Durău Resort, which left us speechless. Our first objective was to visit the Durău Monastery, a jewel located at the foot of Ceahlău. Besides the beauty of the place, I found a place there so close to the soul. The flowers there delight your eyes and tell you, come on, come on!

The painting inside the church was made by the disciples of Nicolae Tonitza, under the careful supervision of their mentor. The painting was made with a technique unique in Romania and rare in the world.

Durău Monastery is located in the balneo-climatic resort of Durău, in the east of the Ceahlău mountains, at a distance of 5 kilometers from the Duruitoarea waterfall, from which it would have taken its name. Its construction dates from the 19th-20th centuries. Durău Monastery has been included on the List of historical monuments in Neamț County since 2015.

The existence of a hermitage of nuns at the foot of Ceahlău dates back to 1600, it was once run by Mother Mariana, daughter of a Moldavian voivod and niece of Voivod Vasile Lupu. The first documentary attestation of the Durău Monastery takes place in an act from 1779. Initially, the monastery church was built of wood. The construction of the current church, much more resistant, dedicated to the Annunciation, began in 1830.

Durău Monastery was abolished in 1959, the place of worship becoming a parish church. After 1989, it was re-established as a hermitage for monks. In 1991, Metropolitan Daniel Ciobotea (current Patriarch of Romania) transformed the hermitage of monks into a nunnery and established the Cultural-Pastoral Center "St. Daniil Sihastru ”
