Romania's famous monasteries - Lepșa Monastery

Lepșa Monastery

Today I return with a new article about monasteries, but this time is about monasteries in Vrancea County. It is about a monastery from the Vrancea Mountains, more precisely the Lepșa area, one of the most famous tourist areas of the county. Lepșa Monastery is located on the banks of the Putna River, in the commune of Tulnici, located at a distance of 72 kilometers from Focșani (the residence of Vrancea County).

The Lepșa Monastery was founded for the first time in 1774. In 1929 the wooden church and all the buildings from the whole hermitage were destroyed in a fire. In that fire, the icon of Saint Nicholas miraculously escaped, considered to be a miracle worker.

The Lepsa Monastery was rebuilt between 1930-1936 and benefited from a valuable donation, an icon painted in 1584, which embodies the Savior and the Virgin Mary, who came from Jerusalem.

Like many monasteries, in 1959 it was locked by the communists, the nuns were expelled and the place of worship was closed. He re-entered the circuit in 1990.

In the center of the courtyard is the old church, dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God, built of wood. In 2012, the second church of the monastery was consecrated and received the patron saints "The Healing Spring" and "The Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel".

To my shame, I didn't know about this monastery, which, as you can see, is a treasure hidden in the mountains. The one who made me discover it was Cosmin Petre, a friend and blogger. Together with my family and other relatives we decided to go to Lepșa and its surroundings, but the plan changed radically when we saw the sign pointing to the right towards the monastery.

Lepșa MonasteryAfter walking about a kilometer from that sign to the monastery, we had to climb a few steps, on an asphalt alley bordered by fir trees on both sides until we reached the bell tower. When you enter the courtyard of the monastery you come across another world, a lot of peace, greenery, flowers.

I quickly took a few photos and then went into church. We were impressed by the way the nuns sang and we stayed calm until the end of the service. I heard tourists saying that they had never encountered such a thing.

After the church service was over, I went out into the churchyard and decided to do some more fortographies, I felt I had to take some of that corner of heaven with me. Unfortunately for me, the clouds had covered the sky and the photos didn't come out the way I wanted.
