Romania is one of the countries with a great artistic and cultural heritage known throughout the world. The centuries have not passed in vain through this territory, and the wonderful historical and architectural heritage can be seen throughout the country.
One of the most important historical monuments in Romania is the Banloc Castle, over 200 years old. The imposing building is located in the commune of Banloc, the last residence on Romanian soil of Queen Elizabeth of Greece (sister of King Carol II).
Banloc commune is located 52 kilometers from the capital of Banat, in Timiș County, it has a history as troubled as it is fascinating. The former summer residence of Pasha during the Turkish occupation (1552-1716), the small town near the Romanian-Serbian border became a royal domain. In the 18th century, the commune became the property of the Croatian penny, Count Francisc Draskovich, who in 1783 sold it to Count Karacsony, a descendant of a strong Armenian family. In love with the lands of Banat, Lazăr Karacsony built in 1793, in the center of the town, an imposing building.
Over the years, the castle has had several owners. After the establishment of the communist regime, the castle building became, in turn, the headquarters of the state agricultural farm, of the forest district, then, in turn, an old people's home, an orphanage and a school. At the same time, many works of art disappeared.
A friend of mine who lives in Banloc wants the authorities or those with a helping hand to bring the Banloc Castle back to life. On this occasion, she offered me an interview in Romanian, on another site of mine. She says of the castle that "it is the closest place to my soul, because every time I go to the castle I experience the feeling of the Queen Elizabeth, who cared for and loved him so much. It is the place where I relax. I went quite often at the castle, here I feel at ease, in the castle courtyard ".
You have certainly not heard of this castle. You should know that in Romania there is not only Bran Castle, which you know as Dracula's Castle (by the way Dracula is a character who never existed).
More information and photos about Banloc Castle can be found on the Facebook page dedicated to the castle.
