Romania's famous monasteries - Buciumeni Monastery

 Buciumeni Monastery

Some time ago I visited the Buciumeni Monastery, located in the commune of the same name in Galati County. I heard about this monastery for the first time from an aunt and I was interested in visiting it. Initially, the plan was to visit a monastery in Vrancea.

I won't tell you that we're lost again, we happened to not see the sign that leads to the monastery. At this stage, a good friend, Cosmin, a blogger like me, will laugh at me when he reads these lines. He is best known for his wanderings in his travels.

Finally we reach the Buciumeni Monastery where we find heaven on earth, in a linden forest. Our eyes rotated in all directions so as not to lose the beauties of the place. After a tour through the courtyard of the monastery, we headed to the Holy Altar in the forest, which is said to have been built by this descendant of Voivode Stephen the Great.

There, in the forest at the Holy Altar, were many people from all over the country listening to the Holy Mass. It's a nice feeling to be there. What I lived was a unique experience for me, because I did not participate in such a Liturgy and I felt that I was before God.

It is said that the first forms of monastic life to this monastery appeared at the end of the 16th century. In 1718 the first church dedicated to "Saint Nicholas" was built and was consecrated by Bishop Sava of Roman. In 1750 the hermitage was dismantled, the church was dismantled, loaded and taken to the parts of Bacău where it was rebuilt. In 1925, the church will be partially destroyed by fire, but will be restored in the same style.

Although the monastery was disbanded in 1860 by royal decree, a few nuns remained to take care of what remained.

The church was restored again between 1958-1959 after the earthquake of 1940. Due to the communist regime, after 1960 only a few nuns remained in the monastery who lived in very difficult conditions. Like all monasteries, after 1990 the Buciumeni Monastery came back to life.
