Romania's famous mountains - Bicaz Gorges

Bicaz Gorges

Bicaz Gorges is one of the most attractive tourist areas in Romania. The whole road from Bicaz Gorges is formed by serpentines of a special beauty. The rock walls hide oats and caves of rare beauty. During the serpentines in Chei we meet small stands with souvenirs, products made by Romanian and Hungarian artisans in the area.

In the evening we had made an escape plan from the city, but we had no idea where, only in the morning we decided to "conquer" Neamt County, but we had no idea what to see. I wanted to see the monasteries, but my traveling partners wanted something else, so for a start we agreed to visit the Bicaz Gorges and the Red Lake I wrote about the lake here , yesterday.

What I know about the Bicaz Gorges that it connects Transylvania and Moldova with a length of over 6 km. The winding road that gives you strong sensations, connects Red Lake to Bicaz Chei. Located in the Hasmas Mountains, Bicaz Gorges are guarded by Bardos Mountain (north), Poienii Stone Mountain (south) and Surducului Stone Mountain (east) and are part of the Bicaz Gorges – Hăşmaş National Park. They were formed due to the erosions caused by the Bicaz river. The Bicaz Gorges, over 5km long, are the highest gorges in the country and impress with the presence of monumental vertical walls with a height of up to 500m.

The Bicaz Gorges represent a particularly picturesque geographical area and connect Transylvania and Moldova. On the route you can also see: Piatra Altarului, a rocky massif of 1,120 m, Piatra Pinteştilor (847 m) and Piatra Arşiţei (835 m), Piatra Surducului, Poarta de Piatră and Poliţele Bardosului.
