I have often written about tourist attractions in other counties and regions of Romania to promote them, but never about the tourist attractions in the county where I live. I'm from Vrancea and I'm proud of that. Vrancea is one of the most beautiful counties in the country and, to convince you, I intend to prove that it is so.
Vrancea is a county in the historical regions of Moldova (north of the Milcov River) and Muntenia (south of the Milcov River) in Romania. The county has an area of 4,863 km², and the residence is Focșani. The main watercourses are: Siret (between Adjud and Nămoloasa), Șușița, Putna, Milcov, Râmnicu Sărat (from Ciorăști to its discharge into Siret). The highest altitudes are held by the peaks of Lăcăuț (1776 m) and Goru (1784 m).
Union Museum
The Union Museum was inaugurated on January 24, 2008 on the occasion of the anniversary of the Little Union. Honestly, to my shame I found out from the press about this museum. The building of the Union Museum is the place where the famous “Hotel Cimbru” existed before and where the members of the Central Commission were hosted during the time of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, when the Little Union took place.
The Union Museum is considered the symbol of the Little Union. The union is made in Iasi, in Bucharest, but Focșani is obviously the symbol of the Little Union and the city of Focșani in the Age of Little Union is presented.
In 1912 the building came into the possession of the Romanian Post Office Focșani branch until 1973 when the post office is placed in a new building. Since 1982, the building has been in the possession of the County Museum. It has been rehabilitated since 2006.

The Mausoleum of the Heroes of the First World War in Focșani
The Mausoleum of the Heroes from Focșani was designed by the architect State Balosin, the construction started in 1925 and was completed in 1931.
The erection of the Mausoleum - Ossuary in Focșani proved to be quite difficult and required a great effort to ensure the sums necessary for the construction of the monument. The architect Balosin was inspired by Byzantine art. The curved lines, the well-highlighted arches manage to demonstrate a part of the nation's history. The mausoleum was built of brick, stone and concrete on a cross-shaped plan. Byzantine-inspired construction with three towers. The lateral domes, arched on three halves of spheres are outlined as a layer of curved lines. On the front above the main entrance, supported on two columns with a composite capital, there is the inscription “Pro Patria”, highlighted by a rich vegetal ornamentation.
Mausoleum of the Heroes of the First World War in Marasesti
The Mausoleum of the Heroes from Marasesti was erected in the place where almost 70 thousand soldiers perished in the First World War. It is considered the most representative building in the country. It consists of 18 galleries in which the bones of about 5,000 heroes were buried. The mausoleum has the inscription on the main façade: “IN THE GLORY OF THE NATIONAL HEROES”, in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the battles of Marasesti.
Among the buried we find the name of little Maria Zaharia, only 12 years old, about whom the history teacher told us how the Romanian army helped. The interior of the building leaves you breathless, many galleries make you get lost and give you the feeling that you are going back in time, where the Romanian army stood up to the German army. Also there is the Central Chapel, where the sarcophagus of General Eremia Grigorescu is located. Although I did not photograph all the crypts, I wanted to visit every corner of the mausoleum.

Lepșa Monastery
The monastery is located about two kilometers away from the central area of the resort. I entered the monastery gate and walked slowly down the alley guarded by towering fir trees. As I climbed the steps to the monastery courtyard, a film unfolded in my eyes, the film of my first visit to the monastery.
The monastic ensemble of today consists of the old wooden church, a new church, bell tower, a chapel (chapel), an aghiasmatar, cell bodies and the abbey.
Lepșa Monastery was founded for the first time in 1774 by a disciple of Saint Basil from Poiana Mărului helped by the locals. In 1929 the wooden church and all the buildings of the whole hermitage were destroyed in a fire. In that fire, the icon of Saint Nicholas miraculously escaped, considered to be a miracle worker.
Putna Waterfall
The Putna River, to which the Tişiţa tributary is added, descends about 80 meters and then a waterfall forms between the rocks. I've heard it said that it's not as big as a waterfall should be. It should be mentioned that it does not impress with its height, but with the power, speed and high flow of water with several waterfalls that gather to form a large lake.
Our visit to Putna Waterfall lasted about half an hour, then we headed to the next stop, Lepșa Trout Farm.
Soveja Resort
It is located in Vrancea County in the Soveja Depression at the foot of the Vrancea Mountains and is known as having the most ozonated air in Romania. The "Living Fire" nature reserve is located in the heart of Andreiașu de Jos village, on an area of almost 40 hectares. The living fire also has a strong religious symbolism, being known as a protector of animals, but it also has a negative meaning, in the sense that the great flames announce an earthquake. The natural area is a hilly surface (Tilia Hill with ravines and erosion forms) formed by sedimentary rocks (marls and sandstones) and subject to landslides due to excessive deforestation, in whose perimeter are emitted natural gases (hydrocarbons) that ignite spontaneously and burns on its own.
It is not known when the phenomenon occurred. It is only said that it is so old that it is the result of a volcanic eruption.

One of the reasons why Dălhăuți Monastery was famous throughout Wallachia and even in Moldova, was the fact that here was (and still is) the miracle-working icon of the Mother of God.
